History
The state-of-the-art IT training and development facility, The Minerva Centre, was officially opened on 26th November 1998 by Carol Vorderman. Carol was a governor of Dixons City Academy; our parent organization and maintained a keen interest in developments.
Dixons City Technology College opened in 1990 as part of a government initiative to raise educational aspirations and attainment levels of children from inner cities. The College is a state comprehensive school funded directly by the Department of Education and initially supported by Dixons Stores Group Plc.
The College has gained the national reputation for excellence, particularly in its pioneering use of Information Technology.
Offering a wide range of innovative services to the community and business, The Minerva Centre further enhances the College's external focus.
Since then The Minerva Centre has grown and now offers a wide range of services to both local businesses, schools and the community.
More recently we have become a Learndirect Centre and an online testing centre for adult literacy and numeracy. We are now also a centre for Life in the UK citizenship testing.
